Are you also a jewellery fanatic who tends to adore the jewellery while watching a movie? Read through as I highlight some of the famous jewellery trends post movie releases.
The Devil Wears Prada:
This movie brought back in trend many of the high end big sized accessories and the ideal way of matching them in analogous color schemes with the similar outfits when it came up to casual attires in breaking the monotony.
Oversized hoops and chunky stones in rings and embellished pendants came back in existence. Chanel jewellery was especially advertised all throughout the movie and for especially a decade after and later on it went on to devour its value in the market even in Asian countries.
For a studio visit, Streep wears a vintage Hancock necklace in the Egyptian revival style. In the same scene and throughout the movie Stanley Tucci wears big rings from Stephen Dweck. When they go to Paris for fashion week Streep sports a pair of vintage Cartier hoop earrings in a style that was beloved by the Duchess of Windsor.
Jodha Akbar:
Jodha Akbar’s jewellery has been a popular choice in the bridal jewellery segment for its Elegance and Beauty.
The idea of wearing a traditional sath-ladh (a seven layered jewellery piece around the neck) came back in trend because of the same.
Raani haar, long danglers with jhumkas, chained nose rings, bangles with danglers, ring bracelets called ‘hath panja’, rings for the fingers and a custom ‘Rajasthani maang tikka’. The most striking among the pieces is the hugging choker necklace, which is also called ‘aad’.
All of these ornaments are intricately designed and are heavier to wear.
Post this movie’s release, there was high amount of acceptance and reintroduction in the conceptualization and fusion of Rajasthani “jadhau” jewellery even with different regional Indian attires. Mughal jewellery which was at that time, during the 16th century quite similar to the Rajasthan Rajput jewellery also came into limelight. The actual jewellery worn in the movie was also auctioned later as all the jewellery worn in the movie was precious jewellery.
Veer Zaara:
The film captures the beauty of Pakistani Jewellery and also highlights the simplicity of Indian village life.
Ornamented Attires
All the jewellery used in the movie and especially the ones Preity aka Zara was seen donning throughout the movie have surely stunned you by now. Apart from all the accessories worn by Preity, we specifically loved her bridal ornaments in intricate silver and gold mixed. Preity also showed us how basic jewellery can make your look more vibrant when mixed with the bright colored attires, especially with incorporation of “ghungroo payal” that especially came into wide trend and fashion and ghungroo baali (hoop earrings), all in pure and bright silver. The fashion statement was made with her big nose-pin which was the cherry on the cake.
The Great Gatsby:
Years after the original film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, sent Tiffany & Co. back to its archives, with designer Catherine Martin researching the glamour lines of Jazz Age jewelry. Martin believes that having such genuinely exquisite jewelry pieces in the film added “the characters” development because these pieces reflect their status in society, their wealth to buy beautiful things.
Additionally, the pieces created for the film not only became the pieces that Tiffany & Co. would create window displays around to promote the film and the jewels but the film gave a new twist to hand jewelry.
She envisioned the bracelet as a traditional Indian silhouette combined with a pave diamond medallion, which became a centerpiece. Till date the bejeweled hairbands and exquisite heavy pearls are now back in high demand and not just for a fancy-dress party.
Titanic:
The heart of the ocean in the movie titanic is said to be the iconic piece that completely changed the history of time! Although in the movie it was said to have belonged to king Louis XVI, it still is a conspiracy.
The whole idea of wearing a rare blue diamond around the neck came in trend right after the release of the movie. Set in diamonds. White gold and cubic zirconia. We cannot even keep a count of how many people and how many times this remarkable necklace was replicated into another one.
The real piece was loaned to Celine Dion to wear for her live performance of the most beloved song, “My heart will go on!”
Many knock offs thereafter started getting manufactured even in Asian countries as well for the cheap manufacturing, production and selling to the buyers in underdeveloped nations.
Sex and The City 2:
Amongst many other trends that are veritably in the movie, the main and clear cute two big jewellery pieces that a high cut distinction in the fashion world were the horse shoe magnet shaped pendant and the black diamond solitaire engagement ring, which is highly uncommon.
Post movie trends the horse shoe pendant and even brooches could be seen pretty much in the markets in the world over in almost all kinds of sizes, and price values, but different classes of women, as it was breaking stereotypes wide and through.
The black diamond engagement ring that “Big” gifts Carrie, (Sara Jessika parker) broke record in the market.
Engagement rings as well know have been widely known to be solely in the uniform white diamond shade and Carrie also made it clear since she didn’t want an engagement ring in the first place, so that added up for two reasons.
Soon after, the black diamond solitaire markets soared up high in abundance, rates grew, markets began to multiply in number and size.
